New Installation CD Requirements and Changes


The current archive programs z and unz do not work on win7. 

We will drop using these. 

We will now use 7-Zip. This will work on XP, win7. 

The installation for 7-zip is located in the special folder of the CD. It can also be found in the ftp tools folder.

The installation package is "7z920.exe" .

Install 7-Zip using the defaults. 

Then add 7-Zip to the enviroment variable "path".

Go to the System Properties>Advanced>Enviroment Variables

Edit

Select "path"

Add to the end ";c:\program files\7-Zip"

You can test this from a command prompt c:\pos>  enter "7z" and press enter.

You should get the 7-Zip command line help. 

You should be able to do this from any folder.

7-Zip command structure is different from the z and unz currently used. 

You can get help from the command line help or you can goto to all programs > 7-Zip > 7-Zip help.

Affected Programs

The above change requires changes to be made to the closing steps.

7-zip will be used to compress and archive data. 

The archives will retain the zip extention.

Step1, 5, 6 and Grept are affected.

There may be others.

Any custom steps that used z or unz will require modification.

Report viewer is also affected.

The new version is 5.0.0.125. This version uses 7-Zip to extract from archives.

Note the major release version is 5.

The version is posted on the Report Viewer dialog near the exit button.
