Setup for PCI Cards under Windows 3.1/3.11 1) Please note that Windows 3.1/3.11 does not support more than 4 Com Ports. Windows 3.1/3.11 users are therefore strongly recommended to set the PCI Card jumper to the Com 3 position. After this is done, insert the PCI Card into a PCI slot in your system (make sure power is off). 2) Power on your PC. If the system automatically enters Windows, exit to DOS. 3) Copy the file "Lavconf.exe" from the Win3.11 directory of the PCI Card floppy diskette to your hard drive. 4) Run Lavaconf.exe 5) Lavaconf.exe will display the I/O addresses and IRQ that are used by the PCI Card. Make a note of them. 6) If Lavaconf.exe reports "IRQ=0", you will need to manually make an IRQ available to the PCI bus through CMOS (BIOS) settings. To do this reboot the system, and press DELETE to enter CMOS. Each CMOS setting is different, but most have a PCI configuration screen that will list IRQ assignments. Assign an unused IRQ to the PCI bus. Also, ensure that PnP OS installed is set to NO. 7) Enter Windows (WIN) 8) Using the Ports Configuration Utility in Control Panel, configure your Com Ports for the proper I/O address, IRQ, etc. If you have 2 Com Ports previously installed on your mainboard, the PCI Card ports will be configured as Com 3/4, but you will have to manually type in the I/O address and IRQ (as reported by Lavaconf.exe) into the appropriate screens. You may wish to use COM2 and COM3 if you wish instead. Simply configure those ports instead leaving the others on Default. 9) In the Windows subdirectory, find the file called "System.ini" and open it using Write or Notepad. In this file there will be 2 lines that read: ComXSHAREIRQ=0 where X are the port numbers (usually 2 & 3) that you have assigned in Step 9 using the Configuration Utility. Both of these lines must be changed to ComXSHAREIRQ=1 10) Save settings, exit Windows, and reboot.
