This readme file applies to the LavaPort cards in Win2K/XP namely: LavaPort-650 LavaPort-PCI LavaPort-Plus (applies to only the serial ports on this card) LavaPort-Quad ********************************************************** Installation of the Driver for Lavaport Cards: 1.) Shut Down the PC. 2.) Plug the card into the PCI slot. 3.) Boot into Win2k/XP and Windows should automatically detect it. 4.) Choose "Search for a suitable driver for my device". 5.) Insert our floppy disk and make sure that the floppy option is checked in the locate driver files. 6.) Windows will find the corresponding driver for the card. Note: Sometimes in Win2k/XP a screen will pop up asking whether you would still want to install the driver even if it is not digitally signed. Please click on continue installation. 7.) The driver installation should finish. Note: To confirm the driver has been installed, please go to device manager => com (ports & lpt) and check that the card is indeed installed. ********************************************************** To Update the driver for the LavaPort: Note: Before you can update the lavaport drivers, you need to make sure you have the updated drivers copied onto a floppy disk. Please follow the steps below: 1.) Click on the start menu => settings => control panel. 2.) Go to System => hardware => device manager. Device manager will give you a list of all devices. 3.) Click on Ports(Com & Lpt) => "Lava Port XSerial 650 PCI Port X". 4.) Right click and go to Properties => Driver => Update Driver. There will be an option to auto detect or to display a list of known drivers. 5.) Please choose "Display a list of the known device drivers for this device so that I can choose a specific driver". 6.) Insert the disk with the new driver files. 7.) Have Disk => Browse => Go to the directory with the new lavaosp.inf and new lavaomf.inf files. 8.) Click OK. Win2K automatically highlights the proper device to upgrade the driver so no need to change the highlight (i.e. "Lava Port XSerial 650 PCI Port X" should be highlighted). 9.) Click OK. Then restart your computer. Once the process has completed, there is no need to do the update again for all the other LavaPort PCI ports on the same computer as it will automatically fix all of them. After you have restarted your computer the new driver should be present and your system should work properly. NOTE: "LAVAPORT XSerial 650 PCI Port X" means to choose the correct port for the 650 serial board. i.e. a single serial 650 board LavaPort650 would only need to choose LavaPort SSerial 650 PCI Port". For the LavaPort Dserial 650 board, you would need to choose from LavaPort DSerial 650 PCI Port A or B.
