General Notes: Read Me File for LavaPort PCI

1. The LavaPort PCI hardware must be installed with the jumper set in

one of the four positions. Please note that the jumper configures the

I/O address for Port 1 only. Port 2 is automatically configured for a

hexadecimal address 400 hex above that of Port 1.

2. In Windows95, Port 2 will always be detected as Com 5 (unless, the

jumper for Port 1 is set for Com 5 in which case Port 2 will be seen as

Com 6). If you would like Port 2 to be named Com4 instead of Com5 (some

application programs do not work beyond Com4), use the Lava Port

Redirector found in the Utils subdirectory of this disk.

Windows NT 4.0 Notes:

Use of the LavaPort Control Applet:

1. The LavaPort Control Applet was written in a "Plug and Play" manner. It will attempt to install your card and attempt to show you any conflicts.
2. Information from LavaPort Control Applet installation is written to the System Log. Please refer here for more detailed information.
3. You can install the PCI card with the Standard Ports Applet. However, this will only allow you to select from Com1-Com4.
4. If you wish to select Com 5-8, then you need to use the LavaPort Control Applet.
"Lava strongly recommends the use of the LavaPort Control Applet for use with your Lavaport-PCI, for both installation and to make user-defined settings changes."
5. By clicking in Device Manager, then on System Properties, you can see information on your LavaPort-PCI. Double click it and you will see one of these possibilities:
* Just the icon, indicates NO CONFLICTS.
* Red "X" through the icon, indicates the hardware has been disabled. This can happen if you override the standard Com settings. Accessing the System Log will indicate the overlap in the Com Registers.
* Blue "!" exclamation point, indicates a System Conflict.
* Yellow "?" question mark, indicates a card not enumerated by the System (the conflict is unresolved).
